ANNOUNCEMENT
THE VI EDITION OF THE BELA BIENNIAL OF EUROPEAN AND LATIN AMERICAN CONTEMPORARY ART 2023 "ART, LIFE AND SUSTAINABILITY"
OBJECT
The BELA Biennial of Contemporary Art in its VI Edition will be described in this Public Announcement and by this instrument.
The BELA Biennial of European and Latin American Contemporary Art is a cultural event organized by the following institutions: AVA Galleria Rio, Projeto Arte Vida Arte, ICELA -Instituto Cultural Europeu e Latino-Americano, Instituto Cultural Neide do Samba and IMT -Instituto Identidade Memória e Transformação. It counts with the support of the following spaces and entities: The Cable Factory (Finland), Poleeni Cultural Center (Finland), Centro Cultural Correios (Rio de Janeiro/Brazil), Espaço Cultural Correios (Niterói/Brazil).
- The BELA Biennial's main objective is to create an exchange between European and Latin American contemporary art cultures by promoting and encouraging the production of artistic expressions in the fine arts, in the categories of painting, drawing, printmaking, digital art, photography, sculpture, street art, installation and three-dimensional object.
- The project also aims to highlight the importance of preserving art and life, which is the theme of the exhibition.
- The object of the present announcement is not restricted to Brazilian artists only, but also directed towards all European and Latin American artists. The objective is to include the largest number of Latin American and European artists, not only those living in Brazil or Finland.
SELECTION
The BELA Biennial 2023 Edition will be curated by worldwide prominent European and Latin American artists chosen by the organizers and the curatorial team.
- The selection of the works will be made by the judging committee, specially created for this purpose and consisted of people connected to the fine arts with in-depth expertise in visual arts.
- To apply the artists must fill out the registration form and send images of up to 3 (three) works by e-mail. Being approved the artist will have until June 15, 2023 to send the image(s) of the final work(s), which will be part of the exhibition and used in the official catalog of the event, which will be physical and online.
- The theme that corresponds to this biennial is "Art, Life, and Sustainability"; the work(s) submitted must justify this theme in its composition. Upon selection the artist must submit a conceptual text about his work or his career.
Single Paragraph
Artists who have participated in previous editions are automatically approved for the VI Edition of the BELA Biennial in 2023.
CATEGORIES
Works that fit into one of the categories defined in Article 3 and produced by artists over the age of 18, completed by the registration deadline, may be submitted to BELA Biennial 2023. Each artist may apply in one or more categories with a maximum of 03 (three) works in each category, provided that they comply with this announcement and are of their sole authorship and property.
The size of the works, which is a compulsory condition for participation in the exhibitions, must have the following maximum measurements: a) Painting/Drawings: one piece up to 1.20 meters high by 1.20 meters wide, and two 60 x 40 cm; b) Sculptures and Three-dimensional objects: 1 meter high, 1 meter wide and weight no more than 30 Kg; c) photos, digital arts and engravings must meet the measurement criteria on a scale 60 cm x 60 cm, or even square canvases, provided they do not exceed the size of 100 cm x 100 cm.
AWARDS
First, second and third places will be awarded with gold, silver and bronze medals respectively; and participation certificates will be given to each participating artist.
SUBMISSION
- The submission in the exhibitions is free of charge, having only the cost of the artist's participation in the official catalog; registration will be open until April 30, 2023. The selection of works will be announced by the curatorship of the event by e-mail no later than 10 days after registration. The BELA Biennial will have an exhibition in Finland at the Poleeni Cultural Center (Pieksämäki), Cable Factory (Helsinki), and at the Varkaus Cultural Center and Library (Varkaus), starting on May 25 and ending on September 30, 2023, as well as in Brazil at the Centro Cultural Correios in Rio de Janeiro and Niterói, from November 12, 2023 to January 6, 2024.
- By registering the artist is automatically agreeing to the terms and conditions of this announcement in its entirety, sending works to take part in at least one space in Finland or one in Brazil including, in case of selection and/or award, authorization of the use of copyrights to the sponsoring entities for insertion in commercial and other actions in the project sponsors own interest.
- Being approved in the selection for the exhibition the artist must send until June 15, 2023 a photo(s) of the work(s) and a photo of the artist himself/herself/themselves, both with 300 DPI resolution together with a curatorial text about his/her/their work with up to 10 lines, in his/her/their language and in English.
First Paragraph
By being selected for the exhibition the artist will also have the mandatory cost of shipping and return of his/her/their work(s). The artist is responsible for the transportation of his/her/their work(s), and the BELA Biennial can assist in the logistics of the return of his/her/their work(s), but the costs will be solely the responsibility of the artist.
Single Paragraph
The artist will have the cost of $390.00 euros (three hundred and ninety euros) to participate in the official catalog with two pages, and another $100.00 euros (one hundred euros) for handling, material and logistics of the return of the artworks, which are services provided by the Bela Biennial team.
*NOTE: The amount of $100.00 euros does not include the costs of the return transport itself.
Second Paragraph
If the artist is interested in being represented internationally by AVA Galleria (Brazil) the investment will be of $450.00 euros (four hundred and fifty euros), which includes round trip transportation. This amount includes international representation for up to 8 months, one page on the official BELA Biennial website and another page on the Arte Vida Arte website. It will be offered an NFT Certificate of one artwork and frequent promotion on social networks.
FINAL CLAUSES
The organizing committee may publicly advertise the event by any means and forms of classical and digital media such as: books, catalogs, folders, posters, social media, exhibitions, magazines, radio, newspaper or television.
- All participants must declare the estimated value of each work at the time of registration in the form provided. In case of interest in selling the works, the artist will receive 70% of the declared sale price.
- The works not purchased, if desired by the artist, may be donated to the Social Project Arte Vida Arte.
- The winners will receive their awards at an event at the Cultural Center Correios, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) on a date to be confirmed and informed 30 days prior to the occasion by means of an invitation sent to the winners and guests.
